 Overview:

The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.

 

The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of nearly 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer next-generation firewalls, including rule creation, patching, and troubleshooting.
  • Apply and maintain network security controls in accordance with FGCC and State of Florida standards.
  • Conduct routine backups, review system logs and alerts, and remediate identified issues.
  • Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and interagency personnel for network-related projects and support.
  • Create training materials and conduct training regarding networking-related applications and tasks.
  • Develop and implement standards, procedures, and processes for network operations.
  • Ensure proper cable management in all wiring closets and infrastructure areas.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network hardware and software such as switches, routers, firewalls, wireless controllers, and VPN systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including network topology maps, inventories, configuration baselines, and IP assignments.
  • Maintain records of network activities, incidents, and resolutions using ticketing systems and knowledge repositories.
  • Monitor and optimize network performance and availability to ensure stable and secure operations.
  • Participate in cybersecurity efforts including incident response and vulnerability mitigation.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure business continuity.
  • Plan and manage network upgrades, expansions, and modernization initiatives.
  • Provide proactive and responsive support to end users, addressing incidents and service requests.
  • Provide Tier II/III technical support for network and system issues.
  • Support and maintain the agency’s Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) network connection and ensure compliance.
  • Support core network services such as DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, remote access, and VoIP.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Knowledge of project management and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of secure network design principles.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field; OR four (4) years of professional network administration experience. 
  • Good working knowledge of current operating systems, next generation firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points, Microsoft 365, Cloud services, SDN, and other networking technologies.
  • Experience with multiple-site deployments and configurations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CCNA, CCNP, Network+, Security+. 
  • Experience in government, regulatory, or law enforcement environments.
