POSITION SUMMARY:

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is currently seeking to fill a Crime Intelligence Analyst position in the Tampa Bay Regional Intelligence Center (TBRIC). The TBRIC is a regional node of the Florida Fusion Center, housed at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. This is a full-time, essential position working closely with other crime intelligence analysts and supervision to provide tactical analytical assistance for criminal investigations and intelligence notifications to the FDLE, other state fusion centers, and federal, state, local, tribal and territorial government agencies. This position is responsible for answering emails, creating and disseminating correspondence, and researching and triaging information for criminal activity.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Compiling, analyzing, and disseminating information and intelligence from various agencies, the public, and other sources, and promoting these sources to maintain the exchange of pertinent information among law enforcement agencies;
  • Requesting, receiving and documenting information of a confidential nature;
  • Coordinating inter-state and intra-state information and intelligence pertaining to criminal activity and criminal movement, and exercising independent judgment to ensure accurate and reliable information is disseminated to the proper authorities;
  • Providing tactical analytical assistance for criminal investigations, including but not limited to driver’s license photos, criminal histories, facial recognition, court documents, and vehicle registrations; and
  • Applying legal issues surrounding the analytic process including privacy, confidentiality, civil rights, and civil liberties protections within the intelligence cycle and products.

 

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Experience in criminal intelligence, military intelligence, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis, or in a law enforcement agency can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  3. Any combination of education or experience, as described above.
  4. Completion of a 720-hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in law enforcement can substitute for one year of the required education.

 

 Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of coursework from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to determine work priorities and insure proper completion of assignments;
  • Ability to operate personal computers and networked communications systems;
  • Knowledge of report writing techniques;
  • Knowledge of research and intelligence analysis techniques;
  • Ability to utilize problem solving techniques and make independent decisions;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information;
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, and document work flow;
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and summarize criminal intelligence data;
  • Ability to analyze financial records; and
  • Ability to report and communicate information clearly, concisely and accurately, both verbally and in writing.

 

BASE SALARY:

Crime Intelligence Analyst I

$41,200 – Bachelor’s degree*

Crime Intelligence Analyst II         

$44,290– Bachelor’s degree* and one year of analytical** experience.

Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst I

$46,350 – Bachelor’s degree* and three years of analytical** experience.

Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst II

$55,620 – Bachelor’s degree* and five years of analytical** experience.

*A master’s degree in criminology, law enforcement intelligence analysis, national or homeland security intelligence, crime analysis or comparable discipline; or a professional certificate in one of these disciplines can substitute for one year of experience.

 

**Analytical experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year- for-year basis. Analytical experience must be in the fields of: criminal intelligence, military intelligence, crime analysis or investigative experience in a law enforcement agency.

 

NOTES:

SPECIAL NOTES:

  • Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating strong skills in critical thinking; analytical research and interpretation; developing and delivering presentations and training to internal FDLE members, as well as, other law enforcement agencies throughout Florida.  Applicants should possess excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • As a member of a law enforcement agency, during any critical incident or disaster (both natural and man-made), these positions may be designated as an essential service position for a given period. During this time, you may be required to work after normal business hours, during office closures, or during weekends and/or holidays when needed.
  • This Crime Intelligence Analyst position is included in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Intelligence Analyst Progression Plan. The plan provides professional development training and advancement opportunities to enhance FDLE’s investigative strategy and promote development within the crime analysis field.
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret National Security Clearance.
