(The court’s interim headquarters is in downtown Tampa. Our new courthouse in downtown St. Petersburg will open in December 2025.)

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:  $17,217.60 annually, 20 hours per week

EDUCATION:           

 

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience as a custodial or maintenance worker. Two years of experience in custodial or maintenance work may substitute for recommended education.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of assigned areas and performing light maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs or setting up courtrooms or conference rooms. The role operates under direct supervision in accordance with established procedures and requires a self-motivated individual.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean the interior of buildings, including tasks such as vacuuming carpets; sweeping, mopping, waxing, or buffing floors; cleaning walls, glass surfaces, blinds, and woodwork; dusting and polishing furniture and equipment.
  • Sanitize restrooms and restock toilet paper, towels, and soap throughout the day to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and recycling, replace liners in receptacles as needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks such as picking up trash and debris on grounds and sweeping or blowing areas around buildings and parking areas.
  • Move furniture as required and set up courtrooms, conference rooms, or banquet rooms; break down tables and chairs after activities or events.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and report any other malfunctions or needed repairs to the supervisor.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • The custodial position requires a significant amount of physical activity. This includes standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling for extended periods. Workers must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, such as furniture and large trash bags. The ability to climb ladders safely when changing light bulbs or cleaning high surfaces is also necessary. Additionally, custodial workers should have the stamina to perform repetitive tasks and the dexterity to handle cleaning tools and equipment efficiently.
