This is professional work of considerable responsibility conducting legal research, writing, and case management activities. Work involves considerable interpretation and judgment in the analysis of diverse legal issues brought before the court. The successful candidate will handle a high volume of work under short deadlines. Working relationships are established primarily with judges, other law clerks, the Clerk of the Court, and administrative staff within the court. 

Knowledge Skills Abilities

This position requires an attorney with excellent research writing and editing skills and the ability to perform thorough legal analyses with a keen attention to detail and clearly communicate legal concepts verbally and in writing. The candidate should have good time management skills and the ability to work independently while maintaining collegial relationships with others.  Attorneys at the court must maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and handle matters honestly and impartially.  Comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Word is strongly preferred. 

Education and Experience Guidelines

Graduation from an accredited law school with a good academic record.  Participation in law review or law journal strongly preferred.

*Actual position classification and beginning salary is based on experience.

  • District Court Staff Attorney - $4,343.00, monthly.
  • District Court Senior Staff Attorney - $4,925.17, monthly: requires at least 2 years of experience in the practice of law, subsequent to membership in The Florida Bar.
  • District Court Career Attorney - $5,540.14, monthly: requires at least 5 years of experience in the practice of law, subsequent to membership in The Florida Bar.

*Salary is 10% less if not a member of the Florida Bar at the time of hire.
