This position will be managing and overseeing Bridge Operations for District One and District Seven.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Develops the State's Bridge and Ancillary Structure Replacement, Rehabilitation and Repair programs for District One and Seven. Directs and oversees the usage of bridge related work program funds. Ensures all repair and rehabilitation designs are prepared using accepted engineering practices and the associated budgets are allocated. Manages and oversees the inspection program of traffic signals mast arms (TSMA) and high mast light poles (HMLP) and ensures they meet state compliance. Manages and oversees the unknown foundation program, scour modeling vulnerability, studies of soils and scour protection to prevent soil erosion. Drives State vehicles to respective meeting sites, field inspections and related activities.
Directs and oversees the management of the Bridge and Ancillary Structures Inspection Program in accordance with State and federal requirements for District One and Seven. Reviews existing program procedures, assists in statewide development of these programs, recommends to management areas of enhancement and/or implements new procedures. Directs the planning and programming of the State's and the local owner's Structures Numbering System. Directs and oversees the scheduling, evaluation and reporting inspections system to maintain the integrity of the bridge and ancillary structures federal tracking program PONTIS. Personally inspects problem bridges, special bridges, movable bridges, and ancillary structures. Oversees the management and coordination of the Bridge Inspection Program for cities, counties, and toll authorities. Drives State vehicles to respective meeting sites, field inspections and related activities.
Directs and supervises the engineering and design section for the structures program, ensures proper rating and posting of bridges for safe load capacity. Ensures the maintenance of up-to-date bridge inspection and inventory records, as-built files and bridge plans.
Develops and updates preventative maintenance plans of bridges and ancillary structures including organization, method, procedures, and new materials. Makes recommendations for improvements to Central Office.
Directs and coordinates emergency repairs and establish liaison with Federal Highway Administration. Provides bridge operational information of concern to the general public, local government agencies and serves as key liaison with U.S. Coast Guard. Drives State vehicles to respective emergency sites to assess damage and related activities. Assumes structures emergency management from the asset maintenance contractor when the emergency cost exceeds a contract threshold value. Drives State vehicles to respective emergency sites to assess damage and related activities.
Facilitates the transition plan for Skyway fishing piers including planning and implementation of the maintenance and demolition program with interaction of the Department of Environmental Protection. As a registered professional engineer, this position oversees and/or signs and seals plans, reports, and other documents as required.
Directs and supervises the District Structures Maintenance Office. Plans the repair and rehabilitation of facilities. Coordinates with the Area Maintenance Engineers for District One and Seven support services and/or contract forces. Ensures that an acceptable level of maintenance and repairs are accomplished. Directs the periodic inspections of facilities. Drives State vehicles to respective meeting sites, field reviews and related activities.
Communicate with the media, as required, regarding technical aspects of structures and media investigations during emergency incidents involving the structures inventory. Serves as liaison with representatives of industries and the public on matters of mutual interest related to the field of structures.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:
Registered as a professional engineer in accordance with Chapter 471 of Florida Statutes.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's license class "E" or higher.
This position requires a valid Class (E) driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:
- three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
- any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
- a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
- a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
