The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.

 

Environmental Epidemiologist SES

This is a professional position that works for the Disease Control Division at the STD Program.  This position will supervise disease intervention specialists and provide direct disease and public health awareness intervention activities.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and operational support for Field Staff
  • Provide epidemiological case analysis and investigations
  • Supervisor duties including hiring and selection, developing performance plans, and conducting performance appraisals,
  • Report to the Department and initiate field records for follow-up and disposition in the STARS system
  • Assist in marketing and special events
  • Assist with outbreaks of various communicable disease
  • Ensure direct reports meet or exceed program standards and objectives. 
  • Attend various task force and other community meetings

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

  • Ability to operate commonly used office equipment such as computers, printers, fax machine and paper shredder.

  • Knowledge of clinical operations and activities.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Valid Florida driver’s license or able to get one within 30 days of hire.
  • At least two years of experience as a Disease Intervention Specialist/Partner Services
  • At least one year of phlebotomy experience or certification

Preferred:

  • At least two years of client/patient customer service experience
  •  Knowledge and experience with diverse populations
  •  Experience in a Supervisory role or as a team lead
  •  Bachelors’ Degree
