The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.
Health Educator Consultant - SES:
This position will serve in the Health Promotion and Education Program within the Community Health division co-leading the chronic disease team and serving as the program coordinator for the Diabetes Prevention Program. This position works independently under the supervision of the Health Promotion and Education Human Services Program Manager.
The Health Promotion and Education Program promotes a creative and low stress work environment where staff are encouraged to bring their professional and personal expertise from the healthcare and public health fields to the workplace, and to be innovative and creative in work products, marketing efforts and program delivery. Professional enhancement is supported and highly encouraged.
This is work leading a team in promoting, maintaining, and improving individual and/or community health by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors. The Health Educator Consultant-SES will oversee the Diabetes Prevention Program, monitor and manage programmatic outcomes for chronic disease programs, lead quality improvement and strategic plan initiatives, oversee fiscal resources, and supervise marketing campaigns.
The Health Educator Consultant-SES must have experience with the National Diabetes Prevention Program, data evaluation and quality improvement, program intervention and planning, knowledge of group facilitation versus teaching approaches, professional presentations, provider outreach and marketing.
The ability to multi-task and communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences is needed.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a team of 3 permanent career service positions.
- Act as Program Coordinator for the Diabetes Prevention Program which includes overseeing and reporting on program outcomes to the Centers for Disase Control.
- Monitor and report on chronic disease team outcomes, outreach iniatives, and program interventions.
- Oversee and assist in designing, developing and presenting literature, information brochures, program materials, presentations on obesity and chronic disease topics, as assigned.
- Oversee fiscal resources related to grants, marketing initatives, and programmatic purchasing.
- Lead strategic initiatives and quality improvement projects
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP), NDPP reporting standards, and outcome measures.
- Knowledge of national, state and global trends and strategies in health education and promotion; assessment and program evaluation skills, methodology & statistical analysis experience, coalition-building skills.
- IT skills including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of health promotion and public health education.
- Knowledge of the principle and practices of community-based health promotion planning.
- Knowledge of quality improvement practices and initiatives.
- Ability to collect and analyze data.
- Ability to prepare, analyze, and present reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- At least one year of experience working with the Diabetes Prevention Program.
Preferred:
- Trained as a Lifestyle Coach to facilitate the CDC’s Diabetes Prevention Program.
- Currently a Master Trainer Select for the Diabetes Prevention Program OR willing to become a Master Trainer Select within the next year.
- At least one year of experience analyzing and disseminating reports and information.
