POSITION DESCRIPTION:Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision. Operates a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites.
Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment. Cleans and washes equipment.
Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: ABILITY TO: READ AND UNDERSTAND JOB-RELATED MATERIALS AND FILL OUT REPORTS AND FORMS; MAINTAIN AND REPAIR HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES AND/OR OTHER HIGHWAY STRUCTURES; COMMUNICATE BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING, INCLUDING FOLLOWING ORAL/WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS; DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS; LIFT, CARRY, AND HANDLE UP TO 50 POUNDS; STOOP, CLIMB, SQUAT, PUSH, PULL, CRAWL OR BEND ON A FREQUENT BASIS; WORK OUTDOORS IN VARIOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS, ON VARIOUS TERRAINS AND AT VARIOUS HEIGHTS OR IN HIGH VOLUME TRAFFIC; STAND FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME; PERFORM MINOR MAINTENANCE ON VEHICLES; OPERATE MOTOR VEHICLES AND OTHER MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT.
REQUIRED LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: This position requires a Class E driver’s license.
OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Class E driver’s license is required.
