Our Organization and Mission: The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States. 

 

Position Summary:  This position is in the Consumer Protection Division in the Tampa Bureau, and is primarily responsible for reviewing and responding to the mortgage servicing complaints, escalating the complaints to the mortgage servicing companies, reviewing company responses and keeping detailed reports. The duties and responsibilities of this position stem from enforcement of Chapters 501, 542, 812, 817, 895, and 932 of the Florida Statutes and related laws and administrative rules of the state, and other related federal statutes, rules, and laws. This position involves independent work coordinating and carrying out the investigative functions of the Consumer Protection Division for the Office of the Attorney General. This is a highly responsible position necessitating the ability to perform the major portion of the duties assigned with a minimum amount of supervision.

 

Pay: $43,260.10 Annually

 

Qualifications: 

Six (6) year of experience in banking, bankruptcy, mortgage, foreclosures or any financial-related investigations, examinations, or analysis.  
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience as described above.

 

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience working with mortgages and the servicing of mortgages
  • Experience working with foreclosures or bankruptcies
  • Experience working as an investigator, analyst or in a position which supports investigations
  • Experience reviewing and responding to consumer complaints

 **  An Excel skills exercise may be used as part of the selection process. If skills exercises are included, they must be completed in person in one of the Florida Attorney General's offices. **

 

The Work You Will Do: 

This position will provide analytical and investigative support and assistance to the Investigators and Attorneys, including but not limited to the following duties:

  • Review and evaluate consumer complaints to determine if a violation of any of the settlements or a violation of Florida law exists. 
  • Assist with the escalation of mortgage servicing complaints to the mortgage servicers, and review the responses.  
  • Prepare reports, statistics, correspondence, and memoranda relating to all analytical duties, including preparation of statistical reports, charts, and spreadsheets relating to data research and/or analysis.
  • Assist our Enforcement Attorneys with Asset Location.
  • Utilize computer skills relating to e-mail and Internet transactions to trace or analyze transmission paths of messages or transactions.
  • Use computer programs such as CFIS, Page Vault, and Excel with a high degree of skill.
  • Prepare cases for trial, through coordination with attorneys, investigators and other law enforcement, as appropriate, including providing testimony.
  • Communicate with victims, witnesses, defendants, attorneys, corporate personnel, law enforcement investigators or any other persons who may have information concerning ongoing investigations.
  • Assist consumers with questions and general updates on matters under your review, under the supervision and direction of the investigator.
  • Conduct independent investigations with minimal supervision by a Financial Investigator.  
  • Identify and conduct appropriate investigative steps in the course of an investigation.
  • Assist attorneys with special assignments, which may require extended hours and/or travel outside the worksite.
  • Perform other related work as required.  

 

During a declared state of emergency, you may be expected to assist in the investigation of price gouging allegations which may include contacting consumers and businesses to identify and resolve complaints, conducting site visits at businesses to obtain statements and evidence, or serve process such as preservation letters and subpoenas. During the declared state of emergency, this may require working extended hours, weekends, and/or during holidays. This may also involve travel to other affected regions to provide support and assistance in meeting the price gouging enforcement mission of our office.
