SALARY WILL BE BASED ON CURRENT STATE EMPLOYMENT AS WELL AS SKILL AND EXPERTISE

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent reports directly to the Arbovirus Serologic Testing and Environmental Surveillance Supervisor and has the primary responsibility of performing clinical and non-clinical ELISA testing and molecular testing of environmental specimens.  

 

Prepares, processes, and performs highly complex assays on submitted clinical and animal specimens. 

 

Prepares stock reagents, moderately and highly complex reagents, and media for use in virology procedures. 

 

Maintains a schedule of preparations and inventory records for reagents. 

 

Performs quality assurance procedures and quality control testing. 

 

Accessions submitted clinical and animal specimens, including assigning laboratory numbers to specimens and monitors specimen quality. 

 

Maintains selected laboratory supplies and monitors function and provides preventative maintenance of selected laboratory equipment. 

 

Analyzes and reports test results. 

 

Performs related duties as required. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing.  

Knowledge of procedures, techniques & equipment used in lab testing and analysis.  

Skill in the use of lab equipment.  

Ability to communicate effectively.  

Ability to work independently.  

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.  

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. 

 

Qualifications:

Preferred - Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological sciences, One year of laboratory experience, Currently possess or are able to obtain within 90 days of hire a State of Florida Clinical Laboratory License as a Public Health Laboratory Technician (or higher) in Microbiology.
