Job Description:

The Thirteenth Judicial Circuit is seeking to fill state-funded temporary Other Personal Services (OPS) Trial Court Staff Attorney positions in Tampa, Florida. These OPS positions are paid hourly and work up to 40 hours per week, except for holidays. There is no paid holiday, sick, or vacation time. Certain health insurance benefits are provided if the average number of hours worked per week is 30 or more. These positions are funded through June 30, 2022, but may receive continuing funding beyond this date. A final decision on continued funding is not expected until at least March 2022.

The successful applicants will assist state court circuit judges and judicial staff attorneys with legal research, drafting of proposed orders and judgments, and other related matters in one of the following court divisions: (1) civil; (2) criminal; and (3) unified family court (adoption, delinquency, dependency, family law, and protective injunctions).

Applicants must possess excellent research, writing, proofreading, and communication skills. Applicants must also exhibit strong organizational and time management skills and be able to effectively prioritize pending assignments. Discretion, honesty, and confidentiality in handling matters before the court are essential.

*Starting salary will be 10% less if not already a member of the Florida Bar.

Education and Experience:

Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school or completion of all law school studies is a requirement for applying.

Special Comments:

The Florida State Court System is a criminal justice agency. The successful applicant will be fingerprinted for the purpose of conducting a criminal history record check. Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background check.

In accordance with Section 110.205(2)(c), Florida Statutes, positions with the Florida State Courts System (judicial branch) are not covered under the Career Service System.
