Position Overview:
The Public Defender’s Office for Hillsborough County Florida is seeking a dedicated and motivated attorney to provide weekend and holiday coverage. This part-time position is ideal for an attorney who is passionate about public defense and is looking to contribute to our office's mission by ensuring clients receive representation during non-standard court hours. The coverage attorney will handle various legal matters, including but not limited to collecting necessary paperwork for all clients daily, assisting with First Appearance Court, and assisting with Juvenile Detention Hearings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in court during weekends and holidays.
- Provide legal counsel and advice to clients on weekends and holidays.
- Collaborate with other attorneys and support staff to ensure comprehensive legal representation for clients.
- Prepare, review, and collect morning paperwork/bond factors.
- Conduct legal research and remain updated on relevant laws and regulations.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with clients, colleagues, and court personnel.
- Ensure all legal and ethical obligations are met in all representations.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Membership in good standing with the Florida Bar.
- Previous experience in criminal defense or a related field is preferred.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and make quick, informed decisions under pressure.
- Commitment to public defense and the mission of the Public Defender's Office.
