The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.
Senior Human Services Program Specialist:
The incumbent in this position will serve in the Office of Health Equity as the Community Health Assessment/Community Health Improvement Plan Coordinator. Duties will include assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating public health services and needs, qualitative and quantitative data and programs at the county level, participating in local partnerships, coalitions and committees related to public health initiatives, and managing ongoing monitoring and reporting. This position may occasionally work evenings and weekends.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert on Community Health Assessments, Improvement Planning and other community health research and assessments.
- Coordinate the county-wide Community Health Assessment and Improvement Plan in collaboration with other staff in the Community Health Division.
- Address health disparities through public health interventions that are evidence-based and have been demonstrated to be successful.
- Work with community partners by participating in meetings and projects in which decisions affecting the public’s health are made.
- Complete routine reporting to meet local and state requirements and deadlines.
- Utilizes own vehicle for transportation unless carpooling is possible or alternate transportation is provided.
- Work before, during and after disasters if needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of community health assessments, program development, and monitoring and evaluation.
- Knowledge of the principles of the social and economic conditions impacting health and health disparities.
- Knowledge of national, state and local health trends and strategies.
- Ability to plan, develop, conduct, and facilitate public health assessments and community health improvement planning, including community health assessments and action planning, with community members, stakeholders, and partners.
- Ability to develop and carry out program monitoring and evaluation.
- Ability to collect and analyze data, and prepare and present reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Valid Florida driver’s license or able to get one within 30 days of hire
- At least 1 year of experience in community health assessments and/or program evaluation
- At least 1 year performing data analysis on a public health program
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health / health related field and at least 2 years’ experience in public health or healthcare field
- Demonstration of good written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
