POSITION SUMMARY:
The incumbent in this position will be a sworn law enforcement officer in training and be assigned to the Tampa Bay Regional Operations Center. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement may sponsor applicants who do not have Florida Law Enforcement standards. Once the applicant successfully passes the law enforcement academy and state certification exam, the applicant will report to their assigned office.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent in this position is a sworn member in training who will assist the public by providing a variety of law enforcement services including: identifying and investigating organized and multi-jurisdictional crimes; apprehending fugitives; collecting and disseminating criminal intelligence information; investigating public corruption; seizing illegally obtained assets; dismantling criminal organizations; assisting in locating missing children; and providing protective services to Florida’s Governor and other dignitaries.
To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
This advertisement is open to internal applicants only (including OPS members) who meet the following criteria:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- To be eligible for a law enforcement position, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen; at least 19 years of age; of good moral character; possess and maintain throughout employment a valid Florida driver’s license; possess a high school diploma/GED; and not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement; and
- Member must have been employed with FDLE for at least two years, one of which the member must have successfully completed a one-year probationary period with FDLE; and
- Member must have a rating of commendable (3.5) or higher.
SPECIAL NOTES:
- Member must be recommended through their chain of command up to SAC/Director level. An email must be sent to MelanieWalker@fdle.state.fl.us providing SAC/Director approval by Midnight on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
- Preference will be given to applicants who possess a bachelor’s degree and/or who have completed Florida law enforcement certification.
- Current vacancies are located in Tampa Bay. Selected Special Agent Trainee candidates will be expected to work in their assignment for three years after completion of law enforcement certification. It is expected that you will take and pass the state exam within 30 days of course completion.

Note: Responses to qualifying questions must be clearly supported by the state application and any omission, falsification, or misrepresentation in the answering of the qualifying questions will be cause for immediate elimination from the selection process.
BASE SALARY:
- $60,000.20
Salary for the position will be commensurate with experience and training.
NOTES:
Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy. The elements of this selection process may include a work sample and/or interview. Future vacancies may be filled from this position advertisement.
PROCESS:
The elements of this selection process will include a physical agility test, written exercise and oral interview. The baseline physical agility is 1 ½ mile run, sit-ups and push-ups. Based on your assignment, additional physical agility testing will be required.
Applicants must pass a drug screen, physical examination by a physician, electronic fingerprint submission and psychological evaluation to further determine suitability and compatibility to perform the basic job functions.
