PLEASE NOTE.  THIS POSITION IS PENDING A RECLASSIFICATION TO AN ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST I.

 

Conducts inspections at assigned small or basic facilities, as defined by the specific program, pursuant applicable Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Code.   Writes reports on outcome to inspections as required.

 

Reviews and makes recommendations on reports, scientific, technical or legal documents.

 

Provides basic technical assistance as needed.

 

Keeps databases updated as required for facilities assigned.

 

Recommends enforcement actions as appropriate. Drafts basic enforcement documents such as Warning Letters and Model Documents.

 

Provides compliance assistance to basic or small facilities as needed.

 

Attends and participates in cross-training activities

 

Other duties as assigned. May volunteer to dive and/or snorkel; must have prior approval and meet the diving and/or snorkeling validation requirements in accordance with the DEP Underwater Operations Manual.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential

Ability to understand and apply applicable regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs.

Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific and technical data.

Ability to work independently.

Bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or in engineering from an accredited university.

 

Preferred

Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.

Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
