ADVERTISING TITLE: CORRECTIONAL SENTENCE TECHNICIAN
This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Lancaster Correctional Institution in the Classification Department.
Our mission in the Classification Department is to accurately assess and classify inmates based on their needs, risks, and behaviors. We ensure appropriate housing and program placements within the correctional system. Our goal is to enhance safety and security while promoting effective rehabilitation, ultimately aiding in the successful reintegration of inmates into society.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
- Look at commitment documents to understand sentencing rules, update sentence information, and make sure release dates are correct. Check computer calculations and manually calculate jail time credit, informing staff of any changes.
- Work with Public Defenders, State Attorneys, Sheriffs, and Court Clerks to fix mistakes in commitment documents and clear up any confusion about sentences. Follow up to make sure all needed documents are received and processed.
- Search the inmate information system to find and fix errors in inmate identification and number assignments, making sure the correct sentence details are entered in the Offender Based Information System (OBIS).
- Review new commitments after inmate intake to decide if a new inmate number is needed or if they can use their original number. Make necessary changes to sentence details and recalculate release dates, informing the Central Office of any updates.
- Work with Central Office staff to identify repeat offenders and document post-release supervision violations, creating a detailed paperwork trail for accountability and making changes to policies and procedures related to sentence structure issues.
