MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  • Have a current Florida Registered Nursing License or a Multi-state license from another compact state
  • Willing to travel to different sites as needed
  • Have a current valid driver’s license or State ID. If out of state a Florida driver's license or State ID will be required within 30 days of hire

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience greater than 2 years in family planning, STI, HIV, and TB
  • Supervisory experience greater than 3 years
  • Bilingual-English/Spanish

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This employee is an experienced Registered Nurse, who applies nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of clients in the public health setting and in client’s homes. Conducts clinics, such as immunization maternity, family planning, HIV primary care, tuberculosis, and pediatric care.  Conducts other programs related to health.  Works under the direction of Senior Community Health Nursing Director. Supervises clinical staff to regarding clinical operations. The incumbent may rotate to other clinics with the Department of Health (DOH) -Lake.

 

Interviews and counsel’s clients, obtains pertinent medical history, assesses client’ health status, immunization status, evaluates needs and performs necessary clinical testing.  Assists providers. Provides exit interviews to assure continuity of care. Educates clients in specific health needs (i.e. maternity, family planning, pediatrics, diabetes, hypertension, nutrition, procedures for prevention of communicable diseases) medications and vaccines. Maintain proper and necessary records of each client as to clinics, visits, medication, procedures, telephone calls, and scanning documents in to Electorinic Health Record (EHR).

 

Conducts nurse clinic under direction of clinical providers. Administers immunizations, medications, and treatment within the established County Health Department (CHD)protocols. Inputs into Florida shots as vaccines are given and ensure input into Health Mananagement Systems (HMS). Responsible every to examine and assure compliance with HMS and FL shots and the inventory corresponds at 100%.  Maintains knowledge of immunizations for adult, travel, and children, ensures that all medications and inventory logs are 100% on a daily basis.

 

Provides nursing clinical assistance and oversight to the Tuberculosis program (i.e. nursing assessments, medication refills, point of contact for provider)

 

Demonstrates skill in use of medical equipment, including fetal monitor and Doppler for fetal heart tones, knowledge of normal laboratory test conducted during pregnancy and administration or prescribed medication as ordered.

 

Assist in the orientation and training of new team members as directed by Senior Community Health Nursing Director. Make referrals to other health care and/or social agencies

 

Perform other related duties as required.

In the event of an emergency, this health department is required to perform emergency operations functions.
