Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is advanced and specialized nursing work providing care to adults and teens for STI evaluation and treatment and birth control and family planning management. The incumbent will work closely with Indian River County Medical Director in coordinating with patient care. Patient management includes performance of certain medical acts mutually established with a Medical Director and in conformance with specialized certification.
Access to confidential records and computer access will be based on the need to know when involved in specific patient’s care, billing activities, ordering prescribed medications or supplies, investigating communicable disease reports, established quality improvement activities, i.e., peer review, records review audits, and investigating complaints.
Incumbent will perform acts of diagnosis and treatment, under a Medical Director’s supervision or within the autonomous APRN scope of practice limited for Indian River County Health Department clients. Establishes presumptive medical diagnosis based on medical history and physical findings. Position includes all aspects of client interviews and administration of medication and vaccines as necessary. Selects diagnostic laboratory tests, interprets and evaluates laboratory results, and initiates appropriate therapy. Takes a complete health history whenever indicated. Takes appropriate action based upon the patient’s chief complaint and/or reason for visit. Counsels and maintains follow-up to ensure continued care and compliance with medical care and treatment regimes. Under standards of care protocols, sees, and provides women’s health and family planning for patients of the health department. Makes additional medical, nursing, nutritional and social service referrals as needed.
Participates in educational activities including clinic education, community programs, patient education, in-service programs, and continuing education. Participates in training of new staff and existing staff in skills and abilities to upgrade their competencies. Participates in ongoing quality assurance activities.

- Knowledge of maternal child and family health practice. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications:
Minimum
- Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of any emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
- Willing to distribute information on family planning (including emergency contraceptives)/HIV/ Sexually transmitted diseases and other health related topics to pregnant and parenting adolescents and adults.
- Have an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license
Preferred
- APRN License Autonomous APRN preferable but not required
- Experience with STI treatment and birth control management
