Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Prepares patient, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials and assists dentist during dental procedures
  • Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients
  • Records treatment information in patient records
  • Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays
  • Performs rubber cup prophylaxis, places dental sealants

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of dental equipment, instruments and supplies, basic dental terminology
  • Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Technical dental assisting skills, organizational and planning skills, self-direction and self-motivation and human relations skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and maintain effective working relationships with other s
  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach and sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to left and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum: 

  • Graduate of a dental assistant program approved by the Florida Board of Dentistry or accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental accreditation
  • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty is required of the incumbent; includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.

Preferred:

  • CPR certification
  • Florida Dental Radiology Certification
  • Three or more years as a dental assistant
