Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Supervising Environmental Supervisors, Specialists, Fiscal Assistants, and Senior Clerks and in the Onsite Sewage Program.
  • Promote and protects public health.
  • Motivated, trains, and directs staff.
  • Completes on-site quality control inspections in the programs.
  • General Knowledge of Microsoft Office software package (Word. Excel. PowerPoint & Access) and Environmental Health Database.
  • Ability to prepare reports regarding program compliance.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs and reviews staff work products for compliance.
  • Ability to understand and follow legislative policy direction as established in Florida Statutes.
  • Ability to deal with the public.
  • Ability to work independently, to plan, make decisions, organize, and coordinate work assignments and to supervise people.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Issues enforcement action for non-compliant facilities.
  • Reviews of applications and issues permit accordingly.
  • Ability to use required equipment for Onsite Sewage Program.
  • Participate in public education (individually, group setting, and phone calls).
  • Attends training sessions, seminars, and meetings to obtain education on all environmental health regulations related to public health that are under the jurisdiction of the department. 
  • Protects Public Health.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of class work in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science is required per section 381.0101, Florida Statutes and Chapter 64E-18, Florida Administrative Code. 
  • Ability to use PC and use of general office equipment, use bucket auger to profile soils to a depth of 72", and use field measuring devices. 
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds, repetitively perform simple grasping, fine manipulation skills, bend, reach, balance, kneel, sit for 5-8 hours, and file
  • Ability to travel to various locations in Brevard County up to 100+ miles as needed.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather including 95+ degree weather.

Qualifications:

Minimum –

  • Have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of class work in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science.
  • Hold a Certified Environmental Health Professional certificate in Onsite Sewage. 
  • Ability to travel to various locations in Brevard County up to 100+ miles a day in all weather conditions as needed.
  • Required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. 
  • Must be proficient in computers, laptops, Microsoft, EHD and other computer programs.
  • Must carry a valid Driver’s license.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in FDOH’s Environmental Public Health’s Onsite Sewage Program.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a supervisor in Environmental Public Health.
  • Able to work daily in-office and/or field work.
