This Registered Nursing position is responsible for selected Epidemiology Programs in Brevard County working under the supervision of the Director of Community Health Services.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervision of nursing and administrative staff assigned to the STD/TB program, records maintenance, coordination of physicians for cases, suspects, and proper treatment and prevention of communicable diseases in Brevard County.  In addition, coordinating with both local and State resources to mitigate the spread of communicable disease in the county. The incumbent maintains good rapport with patients, department staff and adheres to the established Department of Health values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Responsiveness and Excellence.  Candidates are typically hired at the minimum salary.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

Coordinates physician consultation for cases, suspects, and proper treatment and prevention of communicable diseases in Brevard County. Coordinates with both local and State resources to mitigate the spread of communicable disease in the county. Communicates with hospitals, physicians and other healthcare providers to assure patient compliance, and to coordinate services of the Brevard County Health Dept.  Supervises and coordinates Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) Program and engages in locating patient’s delinquent for scheduled appointments to ensure continuity of therapy.  Ensures timely investigation and case management according to the diagnosis and needs of the patient under the direction of the physician in charge. Services include teaching, counseling, and coordination of patient care to ensure completion of therapy. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 Nursing experience in the clinical setting to include case management, physical assessments, medication administration, phlebotomy skills.  Ability to multitask and prioritize client medical needs.  Experience with multiple computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Excel for data management. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, clients, outside community partners ● Knowledge of clerical settings, customer service skills in person and over the phone, proficient computer knowledge and skills, ability to multi-task ● Documented ability to work with multiple computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, EHRs, scanners, faxes, copiers.

Qualifications:

Minimum

 

Associate of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing school and a Bachelor degree in a health or science related field● hold a current, active FL nursing license or multi-state nursing license from another compact state   ● This occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes and in accordance with Rule 64B9, Florida Administrative Code   ● Valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain within 90 days   ● Current, active CPR certification.  Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This includes emergency duties including, but not limited to, response to threats involving any disaster, man-made or natural.  Six years of experience as a Registered Nurse. 

● Basic computer knowledge/skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, multiple EHR applications, use of typical office machinery such as copiers, scanners, etc.

● Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural

  • This position requires daily in-office or field work.

 

 

Preferred

● Experience utilizing HMS, STARS programs. 

● Experience providing direct nursing care for clients diagnosed with a STD or TB.
