Your Specific Responsibilities:
Provides practical nursing care under the direction of the registered nurse and licensed physician and applies practical nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of patients within all programs including but not limited to, Improved Pregnancy Outcome, Family Planning, Communicable disease, Immunizations, Refugee Health, Sexually Transmitted Infections/Diseases, and Chronic disease.
Performs professional public health nursing duties including but not limited to education, interviewing, counseling, and teaching under the direction of the Assistant Community Health Nursing Director according to needs and program requirements.
Performs indicated practical nursing duties and related activities according to established policies and procedures including but not limited to assisting the physician, giving prescribed medication, assisting clinicians, and performs follow-up and compliance.
Provides practical nursing care under the registered nurse to administer immunizations and complete records in a timely manner.
Employee prepares rooms for assigned clinics and ensures that all equipment and supplies are readily accessible for the medical and nursing staff. Inventories and maintains stock of medical supplies in clinics and maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
Employee performs phlebotomy for clinic clients as needed and functions as a backup for all lab duties in the absence of the Lab Tech III. Communicates with respect and understanding in dealing with clients, the public, and other staff members.
Employee enters lab ordering information into the electronic ordering module as required. Employee reviews lab requisitions forms to ensure accuracy and completeness and performs all necessary QA review prior to electronic transmittal and shipment
Employee performs other duties as assigned based on agency need including working in other clinic sites as requested
Portrays professionalism and always communicates a positive public employee image.
Utilizes electronic health records and programs accurately and correctly on regular basis.
Participates in continuing education, in-services, staff meetings, and new employee orientation and transports oneself thereto.
Completes and submits required time management documentations (EARS, timesheets, etc.) in FDOH mandated timeframes and that of direct reports.
Performs related duties as required by Assistant Community Health Nursing Director.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of computer software including applications and EHR.
Knowledge of Public Health Practices.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication.
Ability to assist clinicians with physical and procedural exams of clients.
Ability to organize the clinic or lab work setting and plan for clinic efficiency.
Able to obtain and record client health screening information.
Ability to receive, prepare, and preserve specimens for testing and evaluation
Ability to perform physical activities that require moving one’s whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, where the activities often also requires considerable use of the arms and legs.
Ability to lift 20 pounds.
Ability to read, understand, and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Knowledge of work safety standards and compliance requirements.
Qualifications:
Minimum –
Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
Willing to travel to various locations in Brevard County
Current Florida State Licensed Practical Nurse License or a LPN License from another compact state
Valid Driver’s License
Preferred:
At least one or more years LPN experience.
At least one or more years of Public Health Nursing experience.
Current Florida DOH employee
Experience working with Refugee Health clinics
Experience working in a laboratory setting
Experience handling and processing laboratory specimens
Experience working in Women’s health and Family Planning.
Experience working in Obstetrics/Maternity Care.
Experience working with immunizations.
Experience utilizing an EHR
