Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a Health Support Technician in the School Health program that provides direct and indirect services primarily in a school setting according to the Florida School Health Administrative Guidelines. This position is under the supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor.
The incumbent will provide direct and indirect nursing support services to the students being served by the comprehensive School health program through the Hardee County Health Department. Provides support to the RN/CHN assigned to school keeping him/her apprised of daily activities and concerns. The incumbent determines the purpose of student health room visits including taking vital signs, providing first aid, and refers to appropriate professional staff as needed. Serves as a liaison between school nurse, faculty, and family members. Provides proper documentation of health room visits including completion of individual student treatment plans. Notifies parent/guardian/principal of any student injury. Provides teacher with written action plan when student is returned to the classroom.
Conducts monthly inventory of supplies and notifies school administration of supply needs. Evaluates student medication supply and notifies parent of refill needs. Provides good hygiene instructions to students while in the health room. Notifies supervisor of suspected communicable disease outbreaks. Ensures health room is clean and free from safety hazards.
The incumbent will assist school personnel and or RN / CHN with any health screenings as needed. May be asked to assist with required screenings at schools other than his/her regular assigned school.
Participates in all public health program activities such as Quality Improvement, performance reviews, and client satisfaction surveys as required. Participates in implementation of procedures and activities. Serves as back-up Information Custodian in the absence of a professional nurse at school site.
Treats all consumers of services, the general public and co-workers in a courteous and professional manner at all times while ensuring the personal dignity of those who are served and whose who serve.
In the event of a disaster, the incumbent in this position will be expected to report for duty, during, and or after a disaster as needed.
Performs other duties as required.
Maintains license, CPR, and First Aid certifications, continuing education requirements, protocols, and performs other duties as directed. The incumbent may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in Special Needs Shelters, or to perform other emergency duties including but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, manmade or natural.

Qualifications:
Minimum:
- High School Diploma
- Valid Florida Driver's License
Preferred:
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid
- Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred but not required

Emergency Duty: Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

This is a 10-month OPS position, and the work schedule will coincide with the months of the year that Hardee County Schools are in session.
