This is a professional staff position within the Administrative Office of the Court. The essential function of the position is to assist the county civil judges with the timely disposition of cases through case management and case monitoring. The position is responsible for identifying cases pending in error, managing and preparing cases for court hearings and briefing judges, attending hearings, and implementing strategies to promptly and efficiently dispose of civil cases. The Court Program Specialist II serves as a liaison between the judiciary and court administration while working under direct supervision of the Civil Court Operations Manager and is reviewed through reports, conferences, and results achieved.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public or Business Administration, Psychology, Sociology or closely related field and three (3) years of experience working in a business or court setting; or equivalent combination of related training and experience.

Essential Duties

  • Assist the civil judges with the timely disposition of cases through case management and case monitoring
  • Identify cases pending in error pursuant to the Uniform Case Reporting/Summary Reporting System, manage and prepare small claims cases for Lack of Prosecution, Lack of Service and briefing judges
  • Attend hearings and implement strategies to promptly and efficiently dispose of civil cases
  • Researches case histories through analysis of the court docket, compiles statistical data, attends court, sets mandatory case conferences, and prepares orders and statistical reports
  • Interacts and establishes relationships with judges, government officials, court staff, attorneys, paralegals and the general public
  • Other duties assigned by the Civil Operations Manager

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the legal system and terminology
  • Skill in analyzing court files for appropriate pleadings and legal documentation
  • Ability to work independently and to establish work priorities
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely and logically, both orally and in writing with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive issues before the court
  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, database software applications, legal electronic case management /electronic case filing system, and scanning and image creation software
  • Ability to interact in a professional, courteous manner and maintain effective working relationships with other court personnel and outside agencies, legal professionals, litigants, and the general public
  • Ability to interpret, explain and apply laws, rules, policies and procedures such as the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Judicial Administration and Summary Reporting System
  • Must be extremely computer literate and able to work in a paperless/fileless system
