Specific Responsibilities:
This is a Dental Assistant position based out of the Florida Department of Health - Dental Administration Office. Works primarily with the Mobile Dental Sealant Program. Work is performed under the supervision of the Dental Hygienist – SES. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, applying general knowledge of business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions.
This position is designated as a sensitive position and required to maintain confidential information in accordance with Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Palm Beach County Health Department (CHD) Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures

Responsible for driving the mobile dental bus to locations specified by the project coordinator, including schools, communities, special events, and health fairs. Provide safe operation of mobile dental van and other dental vehicles while complying with organization policies and procedures and Florida’s Department of Motor Vehicle regulations. Ensure safe, dependable operations of mobile unit and equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, proper cleaning of equipment, and complying with scheduled maintenance of all mechanical components. Prepares mobile dental van for next day’s services, including the disposal of gray water and the refilling of the freshwater tank.
Provides support to the dentist and all other staff as needed, including, but not limited to, escorting children to and from classrooms (must be able to walk up and down stairs), inventory control, prepares the mobile bus at the end of each treatment session for the next day, and assists in transferring dental charts to and from Dental Administration.
Prepares client records and other materials necessary for patient services as needed. Provides appropriate instructions to clients prior to dental service. Prepares new patient charts and all related forms. Reviews and is familiar with the contents of the respective statutes, administrative rules, departmental policies, protocols, and procedures relating to information security and confidentiality. Performs clerical duties as needed by answering phone calls, checking client eligibility, scheduling appointments, assisting with the referral of clients needing further treatment, checks patients in and out of the mobile bus per the Dental program requirements.
Seats and drapes patients, sets up dental instruments, and ensures all equipment is in proper working condition for each patient. Cleans and disinfects operatory before each patient is seated; sterilizes and disinfects all instruments between patients or as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to prepare, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment.
- Knowledge of the rules of the road.
- Knowledge of the procedures for operating a variety of motor vehicles.
- Skill in operating a motor vehicle.
- Ability to perform light maintenance and service work.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to lift and load/unload dental equipment as needed.
Qualifications:

- Dental Assisting Certificate per 466 F.S.
Other job-related requirements for this position:
- Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Travel throughout Palm Beach County is required.
- Must complete FDOT Defensive Driving training course.
