Summary
*20 HOUR WORK WEEK*
This position is responsible for administrative support to the Magistrate serving as a Child Support Hearing Officer. Responsible for preparing and maintaining the Magistrate’s court and professional calendar. Review submissions from parties, lawyers and Clerk primarily via email and the court’s internal case management system viewer (JVS) for transmission to the Magistrate for further action; organize, maintain, and track work submitted to and from the Magistrate/Child Support Hearing Officer; provide the calendar weekly to the legal service provider; respond to emails, US mail and phone calls; prepare monthly statistical report for submission to the State, Magistrate and Trial Court Administrator. Maintaining accurate and complete trial dockets, requests for continuances, and trial orders; schedule motions, hearings, conferences and trials. Interacts and establishes relationships with Magistrates, Judges, Clerk of Court staff, attorneys, law enforcement, social services, witnesses and the general public.
Examples of Work Performed
- Works independently under general supervision according to procedures while developing work methods
- Composes/drafts and/or types correspondence, court orders, memoranda, statistical reports, e-mails, and other documents observing strict confidentiality
- May assist the Magistrate in special projects, including research and typing; develops and maintains working relationship with Clerk of Court office and the Department of Revenue’s legal service provider and staff to ensure efficient delivery of services
- May provide temporary coverage for other assistants to a Child Support Hearing Officer at other court annexes
- Attend staff and other professional meetings and trainings

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited law school and membership or expected membership in the Florida Bar; Exceptional writing skills; Well-rounded understanding of many areas of law, court procedures, court systems, and judicial rules.
Relevant experience and/or education may substitute for the recommended minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the legal system, specifically dependency and family court divisions
- Knowledge of the rules of English grammar, spelling, punctuation
- Ability to work within deadlines to complete projects and assignments
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
- Ability to prioritize work and communicate effectively verbally and in writing
