Overview:
This full-time Other Personal Services (OPS) position is based out of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network (FYCCN). The FWC is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, outcome-oriented individual to work as part of the Summer Camp kitchen team at the Everglades Youth Conservation Center (EYCC) in West Palm Beach. The incumbents will work with the summer camp team to deliver quality food service for EYCC campers and staff. EYCC is a residential summer camp that provides 3 meals a day to all participants throughout the summer. In addition to general kitchen duties, the incumbent will work with the kitchen manager to ensure all kitchen areas meet Health Department Standards.
As a part of FYCCN, the incumbent communicates with stakeholders, constituents, and partners and performs functions of this position with a strong understanding of FYCCN’s mission, future goals, and practices. Conveys FYCCN’s vision through effective programming, training, and outreach at the EYCC.
Interested individuals must be passionate about getting youth outside to create the next generation that cares about fish and wildlife resources.
Experience:
- A High School Diploma and at least two months of experience in a kitchen assistant or food service assistant role.
- Documented training or certification meeting Florida Statute 509.049 requirements such as the ServSafe Food Handler certification is preferred but not required. A current Food Protection Manager certification is a plus.
Description of Duties:
Ensure EYCC’s Food Service is in compliance with the Florida Department of Health and American Camp Association Standards.
- Complete required training related to ACA standards and be familiar with/follow all policies in regard to camper safety, risk management, reporting, etc.
- Follow all health department food hygiene guidelines outlined in Chapter 64E-11, Florida Administrative Code.
Assist with facility operations as required.
- Assist with all aspects of food service as needed (dishwashing, stocking, cooking, serving, etc.)
- Assist with janitorial cleaning of the facility as needed (sweeping, moping, cleaning equipment, and food preparation areas, etc.)
- Assist with weekly camper check-in (Consult with parents who have campers with food allergies or dietary restrictions).
Communicate effectively with stakeholders, constituents, and partners through in-person, and program/event interactions.
- Provide a welcoming experience, and positive guest service to visitors to EYCC through program interactions.
- Participate in meetings, mobile phone communications, etc. as needed with EYCC staff to foster collaborative working relationships.
- Maintain effective working relationships with others; work independently, take initiative and work creatively to solve problems.
Perform administrative duties as required.
- Ensure files/documentation are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained as required.
- Attend staff meetings and attend professional development as assigned.
- Complete and submit timesheets and required reports in a timely and thorough manner.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate various kitchen equipment independently.
- Ability to perform inspections of kitchen equipment, premises, and pantries for compliance with health department guidelines.
- Ability to be a team-player and work collaboratively with various stakeholders, partners, and government agencies.

- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments for self and when working with others.
- Ability to deal professionally and sensitively with a diverse audience and a wide range of contacts at different levels.

- Ability to travel, enter and exit a vehicle, and/or vessel, and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.
Position Requirements:
- Applicants must be 19 years of age before May 22nd, 2026.
- Successful completion of all position-specific training and certifications before the first week of June, e.g., food handler training, First Aid, CPR, AED Certification, and Food Protection Manager Certification if applicable. Position training and certifications will be provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
- Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check (fingerprint-based) in accordance with Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.
- May require evening and weekend work hours.
Notes:
- Applicants may apply for the Morning Shift (6:30 am – 2:30 pm Monday – Friday) or the Afternoon/Evening Shift (12:30 pm – 8:30 pm Sunday – Thursday).
- Staff must be available to begin in-person training on May 22nd, 2026, and for all eight weeks of summer camp starting June 31st and ending July 31st. Staff are off June 28th – July 4th. Applicants must notify the Camp Director of any dates they are not available during the interview.

Responsible for following the provisions and requirements in Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, related to the Comptroller’s rules and FWC’s invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures.
