STEPHEN FOSTER FOLK CULTURE CENTER STATE PARK

  

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, hardworking individual, with experience in the building and construction trades, gas and diesel equipment maintenance, strong communication skills to fill the position of Maintenance Mechanic at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park, Big Shoals State Park and the Olustee Battlefield State Park located in Hamilton and Baker County. The combined parks consist of 37 facilities, several of which are listed on the Nation Register of Historic Places. The park hosts several events throughout the year including the Florida Folk Festival. The incumbent will work a 40-hour week including weekends, evenings and holidays.

Situated on the banks of the legendary Suwannee River, this center honors the memory of American composer Stephen Foster, who wrote "Old Folks at Home," the song that made the can be heard emanating from the park's 97-bell carillon throughout the day. Every Memorial Day weekend (last weekend in May), the park hosts the Florida Folk Festival. Other special events include concerts, weekend retreats, a regional quilt show, a holiday light display and an antique tractor show.

Base salary $2,730 month/$32,760 annual

 

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

“Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.”

 

 

MAINTENANCE

Performs and assists in the supervision of repairs, maintenance and construction of park buildings and facilities.  Performs and assists in the supervision of maintenance and repairs of vehicles, equipment and facilities in the park.  Operates all park maintenance equipment. 

 

ADMINISTRATION

Accurately prepares various reports, logs and schedules.  Estimates materials and obtains bids to secure materials for repair, maintenance and upkeep of park facilities, equipment and vehicles. 

 

 

Performs other related duties as required.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • principles and techniques of the skilled building trades and/or mechanical repair work
  • safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work

 

SKILL IN:

  • using various tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work. 

 

ABILITY TO:

  • read blueprints
  • install, maintain and repair electric motors, generators and other mechanical equipment
  • follow verbal and written instructions
  • coordinate work assignments and ensure proper completion
  • determine work priorities
  • maintain a valid driver’s license

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Valid driver’s license.
