Master Fleet Equipment Technician Duties:

 

The incumbent must be able to work unsupervised and exercise both planning and time management skills. Must be able to work in both a maintenance facility environment and in a field environment performing maintenance of fleet equipment including vehicles, watercraft, heavy equipment, small engine equipment, UTVs, ATVs and other fleet machinery. Extreme care must be taken to avoid and prevent injuries and a strong working knowledge of safety and expedient work procedures is required. Reports daily to the White Springs Maintenance facility but may perform fleet maintenance where necessary including roadside under adverse weather conditions as dictated by the situation. May deploy to other areas for up to two weeks during extreme fire conditions, natural disasters, and other situations as required.

 

Troubleshoots and performs diagnostics of, and major and minor repairs to, gasoline and diesel-powered equipment [including marine, small engine, and heavy equipment] and provides expertise and guidance to other maintenance and mechanical positions responsible for similar work. Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic devices as required while replacing worn and damaged parts. Responsible for fuel systems, cooling systems, drivetrain systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems and suspension systems.  

 

Oversees the fleet preventive maintenance program. Provides continuous instruction to officers, supervisors, and other maintenance positions in the proper operation and care of equipment. Responsible for the quality of all preventive maintenance services provided and recordkeeping of such maintenance events.

 

Uses specialized tools and diagnostic equipment to diagnose drivability and performance problems of equipment assigned to the Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement (OALE) Maintenance Shop as needed.

 

Accurately prepares work orders for all work performed and follows up to completion for an accurate account of all parts, labor and materials used. Initiates, prepares, and completes P-card purchases for parts and supplies per OALE and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) purchasing rules. Ensures all work performed is properly documented for accountability of parts and supplies. Responsible and accountable for all tools, test equipment, parts, and supplies used in the daily performance of duties. Assists other mechanical and maintenance positions in the performance of these duties.

 

Studies technical publications, specifications, and repair procedures. Completes all training deemed appropriate for position.  Seeks self improvement through classes, seminars, etc., that are job related. Stays abreast of emergening industry repair and maintenance techniques.

 

Assists with maintenance and repair on vehicles assigned to other FDACS divisions such as Marketing and the Office of Inspector General as necessary and performs other duties as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of professional or nonprofessional experience in automotive, marine, and/or heavy equipment repair work.
  • Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience which equals six (6) years can substitute for the above requirements.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess a valid driver’s license.

 

 

Additional Requirements: 

 

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician Certification required.
  • Ability to establish priorities and organize work. 
  • Ability to maintain harmonious relations with co-workers and members of the public. 
  • Ability to read and write legibly and to interpret written and verbal instruction.
  • Ability to comprehend complex maintenance procedures from the written text. 
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment, motors/engines, vehicles, forklifts, etc. 
  • Knowledge of work habits that emphasize safety.
  • Must be able to be deployed up to two weeks in case of natural disasters or emergencies.

  

Selection Process - The OALE selection process takes approximately three to four months to complete.  Steps to complete the selection process include, but are not limited to:

 

  • A completed State of Florida Employment Application.
  • A completed Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement Civilian Supplemental Application.
  • Oral Review Board.
  • Background Investigation.
  • Fingerprint Processing.
  • Drug Screening.

 

Salary - $54,000.18 - $64,050.48
