This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated, hard-working individual to fill an OPS Park Attendant position at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park. This position is centered on the day-to-day park operations. The successful candidate will be required to perform various duties including the following: park maintenance, grounds keeping, park protection, visitor services. This is a part-time, temporary position working 28 hours per week. The selected candidate will be required to work rotating shifts to include holidays and weekends. This position does not include health benefits or paid leave. Opportunities will exist for additional training and experience.

Situated on the banks of the legendary Suwannee River, this center honors the memory of American composer Stephen Foster, who wrote "Old Folks at Home," the song that made the river famous. The museum features exhibits of Foster's most famous songs, and his music can be heard emanating from the park's 97-bell carillon throughout the day. Hiking, bicycling, canoeing and wildlife viewing are popular activities. Miles of trails wind through some of the most scenic areas of North Florida. Overnight visitors can stay in the full-facility campground or in a cabin.

Pay:

$15.00 PER HOUR

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

The position is centered on day to day park maintenance but has some rare opportunities to be exposed to other facets of the park including visitor education, resource management, visitor services, and other projects. Visitor Services work may include Ranger Station shifts to assist incoming day use and camping visitors.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • apply maintenance trades
  • perform routine inspections 
  • identify and investigate problems
  • maintain facilities and equipment

Skill in:

  • computer applications such as MS Office
  • computer usage to be able to fill in short reports and communicate effectively with internal emails and timesheets
  • resource management techniques
  • interest in providing top-notch visitor services through the cleanliness and maintenance of facilities and high-quality visitor contact experiences
  • operating trucks, tractors, operating mowers, standard power, and manual tools 

Ability to:

  • work rotating shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends
  • communicate verbally and in writing
  • perform physical labor and janitorial duties
  • use power/electrical/gas tools and equipment
  • deal with visitor inquiries in a tactful, efficient, and courteous manner
  • deal with people and maintain good public relations
  • notify the public rules and regulations
  • prepare and keep accurate reports
  • follow verbal and written instructions
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • understand and apply directives, policies, laws, and regulations
