A management opportunity is available for an energetic, hardworking, park service professional to fill a Resident Assistant Park Manager position at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park. This position will work with the Park Manager to lead, assist, oversee, and mentor the staff. This position directly supervises 5 Park Rangers, 1 Museum Guide and few Part-time staff members. Required to live onsite in a 3BR/2 Bath house.

Situated on the banks of the legendary Suwannee River, this center honors the memory of American composer Stephen Foster, who wrote "Old Folks at Home," the song that made the river famous. The museum features exhibits about Foster's most famous songs, and his music can be heard emanating from the park's 97-bell carillon throughout the day.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply. In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department’s Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position. If position is supervisory, incumbent is also expected to actively support and work toward fulfilling the Agency’s Affirmative Action objectives.

 

ADMINISTRATION - Participates in employee training, supervision and discipline.  Supervises the staff in fiscal and purchasing procedures and policies.  Ensures property procedures and policies are applied.  Participates in the administration of the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations.  Coordinates work schedules and assignments.  Checks reports, fee collection and miscellaneous records prepared by the staff.

 

VISITOR SERVICES - Coordinates interpretive programs, activities and schedules for park unit.  Meets the public, interprets the resources, facilities and services, resolves problems and provides for good public relations.  Supervises the staff in providing visitor services. Assists in the setup and production of numerous special events including the Florida Folk Festival.  Coordinates and participates in ADA the accessibility program and improvements for three park units.

 

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Supervises and Participates in the supervision of resource management programs applicable to park unit including prescribed burning, water level management, native species propagation, erosion control and exotic plant and animal removal.  Coordinates and participates in cultural resource management programs for three park units including archaeological sites, historic structures, and historic sites.  Supervises staff in the cyclical maintenance and preventative maintenance of historic buildings.

 

MAINTENANCE - Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections.  Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises the staff to assure maintenance on a daily, weekly and yearly basis is regularly performed.  Supervises and assists with the maintenance of buildings, roads, bridges, trails, water systems, wastewater systems, vehicles, equipment, playgrounds, etc.  Assists with the completion of park work projects.

 

PROTECTION - Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor.  Supervises staff in ensuring park grounds and facilities are routinely inspected for safety needs and addresses these needs in a prompt manner.  Prepares and reviews incident reports for the park units.

 

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Reside on park property.
