The Work You Will Do:
Weight Facility Supervisor / Florida Department of Transportation / Motor Carrier Size and Weights
This position will supervise a team of weight inspectors which operate the state-of-the-art Wildwood Weigh Station and enforce the Federal and State weight and safety commercial motor vehicle motor laws.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Directs, coordinates, and supervises the operations and the staff of the fixed scale facilities. Incumbent supervises subordinates spending majority of time communicating, motivating, training, evaluation, planning and directing work of employees. Reviews and approves daily reports and documents including activity reports, Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) citations and permits, safety reports, fuel permits, incident and supplemental reports, and other reports, logs or forms required for usage. Conducts inspections of weight inspectors, facilities, and equipment. Ensure all inspectors have forms, documents, equipment, and technology to do their jobs. Prepares weekly and monthly reports of activities. Serves as custodian of property, tools, electronic, and other equipment maintained at the facility. Serves as liaison for the scale facility. Make notifications in the events of facility damage or required repairs or upkeep. Prepares reports and financial documents required in the operation of the facility.
Enforces provisions of weight laws, including vehicle registration requirements and compliance with fuel tax requirements of commercial vehicles as specified in Chapter 316 of the Florida Statutes (F.S.). Incumbent is not a Sworn Officer and may only enforce those provisions that constitute a civil penalty in Sections 515, 516, 535, 540, 545, 546, and 550 of Chapter 316, Florida Statutes. Weighs vehicles with fixed scales, uses automated scales and measuring devices to determine the weight of commercial vehicles and cargo. Calculates axle and gross weights of those vehicles, according to weight law formulas to detect violations; measures vehicles for over-dimensional violations; reviews special over-weight or over-dimensional permits for compliance; inspects license tags and fuel permits to ensure proper taxes have been paid; and issues temporary fuel permits. Inspects license plates and registration certificates of vehicles, for expiration or improper weight classification, according to the declared gross vehicle weight, and conducts necessary inquiries with issuing authorities to determine if violations are present. Enforces vehicle registration requirements by comparing vehicle identification numbers printed on registration documents, with the vehicle identification number on plate of vehicle. Compare license tag numbers to corresponding tag numbers on registration documents. Determines amounts of penalties and issues commercial motor vehicle citations. Maintains records and prepares reports on all vehicles checked, weighed and assessed, properly identifying types of violations for reporting purposes. Completes required incident reports for all citations involving permit violations, licensing violations, and protested cases.
Ensures current agency policies and procedures are strictly enforced, and the chain of command is understood and followed by employees. Provides leadership, and ensures a positive work environment by administering discipline, solving conflicts, and giving and receiving feedback during regular staff meetings and private sessions with subordinates.
Participates in “on-going” weight inspector career training programs to assist in the development of new weight inspectors through formal classroom and on the job field training opportunities. Maintains working knowledge of current agency policies and procedures and state and federal laws. Conducts or arranges for required training of subordinates and provides regional manager with updates on training progress and needs.
Monitors e-mail, fax communications, vehicle/cargo theft systems, and PrePass system for compliance with state and federal laws and rules. Notifies appropriate law enforcement personnel of any criminal activity. Uses telephone, National Crime Information Center (NCIC) / Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC), Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles computer systems, and two-way radio communications to confirm violations. Conducts business for the office by assisting other employees, obtaining aid, and relaying information to other agencies. Maintains the required records and certifications for the operation of these systems.
Completes work assignments from management by accurately completing and filing required agency reports, letters, e-mails, forms, and other documents in a timely manner. Keeps management staff fully apprised of unusual or emergency situations, as well as issues involving the well-being of our employees.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Skilled in applying cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Skilled in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Ability to:
- Ability to supervise and deal with individuals in an effective manner.
- Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to collect, review, and verify data and maintain records.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
- Extensive on the job and classroom training is required to maintain job knowledge that is necessary as updates and changes are made in responsibilities.
- Incumbent must be Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certified within 9 months and maintain certification.
- Incumbent must be certified in CPR / AED within 9 months and maintain certification.
- This position requires a level II background check in accordance with the Statewide Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) and Section 282.709, Florida Statutes.
- This position will be required to respond before, during and following emergency situations.
