Your Specific Responsibilities:

Performs clinical examination of patients both visually and by oral x-ray survey. Performs oral prophylaxis to patients including supragingival and subgingival scaling, polishing, and application of topical fluoride solutions. Applies dental sealants. Removes calculus deposits, accretions and stains from exposed surfaces of the teeth and gingival sulcos. Performs root planning and curettage as required. Records findings and treatment in the patients dental record. Refers patients for needed dental services. May expose, develop, and mount dental x-rays as needed.

Provides preventative instructions to patients in proper attitudes and techniques of self-care, such as actual toothbrushing and the use of dental floss. Provides primary preventative instructions to parents of small children in cases where it is apparent that the parent must carry out the performance of toothbrushing and flossing for the child.

Assists other dental staff in maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable working environment. Works with staff to assure effective patient flow. Maitains organization of supplies and equipment. Advises supervisor of supply orders in a timely manner. Assist with inventory of supplies and equipment. Utilizes cold sterile and autoclave methods for instruments. Adheres to local and state regulations regarding disposal of bloodborne pathogen materials.

Manages the school-based sealant program for the Dental Program for the DOH, Nassau.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of clinical practices related to work as a Dental Hygienist.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments in a prioritized fashion.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and appropriate medical documentation in EHR system.
  • Ability to work with persons of different race, language, culture, or socioeconomic status.
  • Ability to adapt to necessary changes in duties, duty station or work hours.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Skill in use of a personal computer.
  • Knowledge of patient confidentiality laws.
  • Skill in use of computer programs such as Microsoft office.
  • Skill in utilizing strong verbal communication and listening skills.

  • Ability to educate peers in the theory and practice of their position.

 

 

Qualifications:

Minimum –

Current License as a Registered Dental Hygienist in the state of FL

Graduate of a Dental Hygienist Program

5 years or more of experience as Dental Hygienist in Dental Office

Current and Active CPR certification

Experience with adults and  children as a Dental Hygienist

 

Preferred

Experience in providing Dental Hygiene Education to Children and Adults.
