This position, an employee of the Nassau County Health Department (NCHD), works to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county, and community efforts. They are expected to be responsive by serving our customers and engaging our partners.  Finally, the employee is expected to perform with excellence by promoting quality outcomes through learning and continuous performance.  This is a responsible position requiring accuracy and independent judgment under the direct supervision of the Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor working in the Nassau County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC Program).  This position is based at the Yulee WIC Clinic., however; may be required to report/provide coverage in Callahan, Baker, Fernandina, and Hilliard WIC clinic locations.  Employee will be operating a state vehicle to service clients at multiple sites within the Nassau and Baker County areas. Participates in outreach events and QI projects. Performs other duties as assigned by Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor and/or Nutrition Program Director.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Interviewing potentially eligible clients via telephone and in person.
  • Accurately and appropriately entering all WIC information into FL-Wise.
  • Ensures duplicate clients are not created and if a duplicate is determined, follows procedures to get duplicate removed.
  • Schedules clients with the appropriate appointment type for all eligible members of a family.
  • Perform WIC benefits issuance.
  • Orientates new clients to WIC providing information on rights and obligations, use of WIC EBT card, policies and procedures, and WIC clinic operations.
  • Schedules return appointments.
  • Informs the clients of their need for re-certification information when required according to the program guidelines.
  • Performs administrative site duties.
  • Answers telephone in a timely manner and returns calls.
  • Maintains accurate inventories, including special formula and WIC EBT cards.
  • Issues breast pumps according to local WIC protocol and re-evaluates loaned double pumps monthly according to policy.
  • Investigates and documents incidents and complaints concerning clients and vendors. Works reports as assigned by supervisors.
  • Verify WIC eligibility.
  • Interview clients to determine income eligibility at certification and/or re-certification based on established federal guidelines.
  • Performs adjunctive eligibility where applicable (use FLMMIS) and records in computer.
  • Accurately updates temporary certifications (short certifications) in computer, completes forms, and scans forms into system.
  • Investigates and documents incidents and complaints concerning clients and vendors.
  • Works reports as assigned by supervisors.
  • Obtains anthropometric and hematological data from clients as needed for all appointment types.
  • Obtains immunization data and reviews for accuracy.
  • Refers clients to other social services as requested.
  • Codes services in FL-Wise and HMS EARs accurately.
  • Participates in outreach events and QI projects
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • Computer knowledge and ability to include state software programs, and Microsoft office.
  • Knowledge of leadership skills.
  • Knowledge to recognize situations in which intervention is needed to improve clinic efficiency

 

Qualifications:

Minimum-

  • High school diploma
  • Willingness to provide coverage at all Nassau/Baker WIC sites
  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred-

  • Previous or current employment with Florida WIC
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
