FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH - OPEN COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITY

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provides clinical services at DOH-Nassau’s community-based clinics to include but not limited to, the provision of family planning, immunizations and STD screening and treatments.
  • Gathers and records pertinent data/information on client records from assessment and interview process.
  • Provides appropriate client education and counseling related to each health services program.
  • Reviews electronic health record and service coding for completeness, accuracy and quality assurance purposes.
  • Assists providers with physical examinations, and other procedures as necessary.
  • Issues prescribed medications/birth control/ECP per DOH-Nassau’s Nurse issuance Protocol and/or under the direction of a provider.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare team members.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA law.
  • Performs phlebotomy services and routine laboratory testing including pregnancy tests, rapid STI tests.
  • Prepares specimen for pick up by courier service according to lab shipping and handling procedures.
  • Reviews vaccination records and provide immunization services which includes the education, counseling and administration of immunizations to children and adults per CDC, ACIP, VFC, FDOH and DOH-Nassau guidelines.
  • Updates vaccination records in FL SHOTS and issues appropriate documentation. i.e. Form 680 and religious exemptions.
  • Assists in setting up examination rooms.
  • Ensures that exam rooms are cleaned at the end of each clinic day and supplies are restocked.
  • Sterilize and package instruments per guidelines.
  • Assists with the orientation of students, new staff members and cross training fellow clinical employees.
  • Provides direction and assistance to Licensed Practical Nurses, Health Support and Lab technicians.
  • Completes time sheet and EAR entry within the required time frame.
  • Subject to emergency duty in the event of a natural disaster Completion of all mandatory or assigned trainings within the required time frame.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Medicine and Dentistry - Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive healthcare measures.
  • Therapy and Counseling – Knowledge of information and techniques needed to rehabilitate physical and mental ailments and to provide career guidance including alternative treatments, rehabilitation equipment and its proper use, and methods to evaluate treatment effects.
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.
  • Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including needs assessment techniques, quality service standards, alternative delivery systems, and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques.
  • Communication - Talking to others to effectively convey information. Communicating effectively with others in writing as indicated by the needs of the audience. Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes and in accordance with Rule 64B9, Florida Administrative Code.

 

Preferred:

  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing
  • 2 years’ experience as a registered nurse in a clinic or community setting.
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
