Working Title: Regional Mental Health Ombudsman

 

This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Zephyrhills Correctional Institution in Office of Health Services. Zephyrhills CI is located close to Tampa and beaches of Clearwater with the Orlando Theme Parks about an hour away.

 

Salary: $102,572.08 Annual Rate (Licensed Psychologist)

            $96,873.66 Annual Rate (Non-Licensed Doctorate Level)

 

Please note: The above listed salary is not negotiable, and due to the nature of this position, working Monday-Friday at the Institution is required.  We do not provide supervision for licensure.

SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific Duties

  • The employee in this position spends a minimum of 75% of his/her time involved in contact with inmates in a Correctional Institution. This is a highly responsible position that serves as the principal liaison to the Central Office Mental Health Ombudsman (COMHO), duties include but not limited to:
  • Review of indicators for inpatient mental health services and out-of-cell structured therapeutic services at designated institutions with mental health inpatient units.
  • Review and provide assistance to the Central Office Mental Health Ombudsman and wardens (or their designee) in addressing formal grievances from inmates residing in inpatient mental health units.
  • Proactively identify issues and concerns pertinent to access to necessary mental health treatment in the inpatient units.
  • Provides management consultant services and assistance to state agencies in order to improve management capabilities and operational procedures.
  • Provides assistance to agency officials and their staffs to promote the most efficient and effective
  • accomplishment of the operating objectives at the lowest cost.
  • Provides status reports to the Central Office Mental Health Ombudsman and Wardens to assist in analysis and amelioration of identified concerns.
  • Conducts weekly rounds in the inpatient units to check the wellbeing of inmates in their cell or out in the quad.
  • Attends and observes mental health services being offered to the inmates.
  • Observes and shadows other services provided to inmates on the inpatient units.

Specialized Duties

  • Provides on-site reviews of mental health services and out-of-cell structured therapeutic services in inpatient mental health units.
  • Reviews formal grievances, as needed, from inmates residing in inpatient mental health units;
  • Attends MDST meetings, conducts interviews, observations and evaluations of inmates to proactively identify issues and concerns pertinent to access to necessary mental health treatment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

  • A Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from a postsecondary institution accredited by an accrediting agency or state approved agency by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
  • At least one (1) year experience in an inpatient treatment unit/hospital.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
